For years I've been known as the "Captain", ever since I wore my customary sailor's cap on stage. Later I kept a few spare ones beside me because of the constant photo shoots people wanted of me with my cap on their heads (leaving me capless and with messed up hair).
Why the cap? I was negotiating back in 2000 to buy a yacht but the deal fell through and I just kept wearing the cap I had bought to sail with. I guess it reminded me that I'm not a good negotiator!
And everyone wanted to be the Captain !
Portofino - every summer from 2000 till 2008.
What a time it was!
Back in '96 at the Sheridan Hotel in the Algarve, I did solo with the use of backing recorded on midi disk directly from Technics keyboard with Roland SC55 module. The laptop back then was in it's infancy and memory was but a few megabites.
I met a number of famous people at this 5 star establishment. Jimmy Buffet introduced himself one night, a great artist that I new nothing about at the time. (Margaritaville was his big hit).
Later I was joined by my pal Nico from South Africa and we formed "Tonnic" Tony and Nico, and we did the circuit around Albufeira and surrounding tourist towns, Vilamoura, Quinta do Lago and Carvoeiro. Good times they were!
